This is the most radical act since Japanese internment, and will permanently damage America, democracy, and the Senate. CALL + FAX these Senators: Collins, Snow, Dewine, Voinovich, Spectre, Sununu, Hagel, Murkowski, Lugar, Warner, Shelby, Smith, Alexander, Graham (Chafee and McCain have said they oppose killing filibuster). Some have said they support killing Phil, but are psuedo moderates or traditionalists- (Shelby voted against some of impeachment), and may possibly be swayed. 4 more votes are needed. Voinovich should be after Lugar in order of contact (first 8 best). My letter at bottom. I recommend sending faxes, but with all these district offices, you are guaranteed with getting through because DC and maybe main home numbers will be tied up. These numbers (esp. fax) are very hard to get anywhere else. CONTACT CONGRESS

Dear
Senator,
I demand that you reject this extreme attempt
to kill the filibuster. This is the most
radical act since Japanese internment, and
will permanently damage America, democracy,
and the Senate. This check and balance is
the last bulwark against absolute rule by
the fundamentalists. Didn’t we flee England
to escape this? Act like conservatives, who keep 2¼ century traditions stable, rather accede to the fanatics of your
party, who must win 100% of the time instead of 96%. Clinton had 6½ times more
judicial candidates rejected (tied up) than Bush has had. And only the worst of
the worst are being stopped, but that’s all Bush seems to nominate. The
blizzard of lies and propaganda that your Party is spewing about this should
have you hanging your head in shame. Nobody believes this is only for
judicial nominees, who should have the most bipartisan support anyway,
since they are lifetime appointments.
And
if you do this- manage to kill the filibuster, you will have arrogantly
overstepped, like with Schiavo, and maybe will lose the Senate next year…. and
feel the rage that you’ve created by Democratic rejection of every Republican
bill. The knife cuts both ways.
I suggest you form a block with other moderate Republicans to stymie these continuous affronts and abrogations of comity and counteract the Radical hate mongers of your party. Better yet- give up on them and become a Democrat (who should be renamed the Social Conservative Party; Republicans are now the Radical Party).
Sincerely,
Michael Hammerschlag
